The geometric characteristic data of fillers mainly include specific surface area, porosity, filler factor, etc., which are the basic parameters for evaluating the performance of fillers.
(1) The specific surface area per unit volume of filler is called the specific surface area, represented by a and measured in m2/m3. The larger the specific surface area of the packing, the larger the gas-liquid mass transfer area provided. Therefore, specific surface area is an important indicator for evaluating the performance of fillers.
(2) The void volume per unit volume of filler is called void ratio, expressed as e and measured in m3/m3 or%. The larger the porosity of the filler, the greater the ability of gas to pass through and the pressure decreases. Therefore, porosity is another important indicator for evaluating the performance of fillers.
(3) The ratio of the specific surface area of the filler to the third power of the void fraction, i.e. a/e 3, is called the filler factor and is represented by f in units of 1/m. It represents the fluid dynamics performance of the packing, and the smaller the f value, the lower the flow resistance.
